There are some ideas you don't give a lot of serious thought to until someone you respect comments on them. Stephen Hawking made a statement in an interview that there is a good chance that artificial intelligence will surpass human intelligence in the not-so-distant future. He goes on to say that our only hope is to aggressively pursue genetic engineering in order to create super humans. Holy huge can of worms Batman!!
Actually, it may be too late. He says that computing power doubles every 18 months and it takes almost 18 years to see the full effects of genetic engineering on humans. It doesn't seem like we can keep up. I say we stay on friendly terms with them. Maybe they will leave us alone. They won't need to wipe us out for space to live because they can live as easily (if not more easily) in outer space as on the earth. Once they expand into space their power sources multiply (unfiltered solar power being the most readily abundant).
I guess the cinical thing to say would be "I hope that with their superior intelligence comes superior morality."

I just learned of a new(?) game called Mafia. It is very simple to play and appears to be quite entertaining. I can't wait to try it on our next game night. (Courtesy of Boing Boing)

My last post was lost when the computer in the school library crashed. Oh well. Try again.
I clicked on this most recently updated blog and kind of liked it so I'm linking it here cuz I'm not on my home computer. Here's another one.
Gotta go to work.
Later.

I'm in the new house!!! We've been very busy (and will continue to be). There is a lot of work to be done.
I heard about a "cell phone symphony" on "All Things Considered" the other day. I just did a search with google but so far I have not found anything about it. It seems that there is a conducter out there who is going to try to make music with cell phones. To make it even more interesting, he is using the cell phones that the audience brings with them. They played a couple of short practice pieces that were recorded during rehearsal. Interesting. To me, it sounded just good enough to be more than just a gimmick.
FOUND IT! Here is a site that describes the symphony. There are also a couple of short mp3s that give you an idea of the "music".
