I am currently watching a show on TLC about storm chasing. It's very cool. I love storms, although I've never seen anything like what they are talking about. These are major tornados. I get a kick out of a big thunderstorm. Of course, I live in the northeast so there isn't much chance of a tornado. Every once in a while there is one around here but rarely very large.
I could go on a storm chasing vacation. Here's a site for one. I don't think my girlfriend would go for it.

I was talking with a guy I work with about Rastafari. It is something that I essentially know nothing about. The conversation started when I told him that there was going to be free pizza during our break. He then told me that he didn't eat pizza. He has recently emigrated from Jamaica and I remembered another Jamaican who also didn't eat pizza. We talked about it and he said that many Rastafari won't eat something unless they know exactly what's in it, especially if there is a chance that there is pork in it. Our conversation lasted another few minutes until I had to go do something else.
I figured I'd look it up online and see what I could learn. I did a search and went to a site with a good essay. I haven't read the whole thing but it seems to give a nice short overview of Rastafari.

For the last couple of days I've been thinking about photography. I always thought it would be something cool to try but it always seemed to me to be an expensive hobby to get started in (and the way my hobies seem to change from moment to moment, I couldn't justify the expense). I do have a digital camera (actually it's my girlfriend's) so I figured I'd do some searching and see what i could find on creative digital photography. So far I have found a site with some pretty cool images. This is definatley peaking my interest (of course, I say that about something new every couple of weeks).
Time to go to work. Later.

I have to say that I'm not too happy about something I just learned. I'm a pretty big fan of animation, especially Warner Bros. cartoons. It seems that many of these cartoons (and others) have been edited once they got to TV. Often for being too violent. There is an expansive web site that lists many of the cuts. via Pop Culture Junk Mail. The sheer number of cartoons affected is mind numbing (of course there are many who would say that the cartoons themselves are mind numbing - my girlfriend, for one). When it comes to things like this, I usually folow the purist line. I would like to see the cartoons as they were originally released in the same way that I would like to see an old movie in black and white and not colorized.
I understand the arguments (at least sometimes) for cutting and sometimes not even showing a cartoon because of violence or racial stereotypes. I also realize that cartoons are now mainly watched by children and they may not have a good perspective on "Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarfs." I just hope that there will always be a way to see these cartoons in their original form.

Just read a great interview with Berkeley Breathed. Thanks to Scrubbles. I loved Bloom County and I still reread some of the books every so often. I like the way he answers questions, too. He cracks jokes incessently, like Robin Williams, but he also actually answers the questions (unlike Robin most of the time). I want to seek out his childrens books and see what they are all about.
He also speaks highly of Bill Waterson of Calvin and Hobbes fame. He is another of my favorite comic strip artists. I searched his name at Google and found a site that had all of his "Calvin and Hobbes" poetry. Pretty cool.
I better get back to work. Later.
